Mayor Ireland was elected as Chair for the Regional District of Central Okanagan Board.

Jump on your pedal-powered mode of transportation and stop by the Go By Bike Week Celebration Station tomorrow morning – Wednesday, June 5th from 7:30am – 9:30am there will be snacks and prize draws at Swalwell Park. 


Mark your calendar to attend the FireSmart Open House event at Lake Country Fire Hall 71 Saturday, June 15th from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

  • Councillor Lewis declared a conflict of interest due to a business interest and left the meeting at 7:27 p.m.

    THAT OCP Amendment (Subdivision) Bylaw 1226, 2024 be adopted.

    Carried.

    Councillor Lewis returned to the meeting at 7:28 p.m.


Lynn Lashuk | Lake Country Farmers' Institute (LCFI)

Ms. Laskuk read a letter previously distributed to Mayor and Council on behalf of the Lake Country Farmers' Institute thanking the District for their work on the Water Master Plan.

Development Variance Permit to increase the permitted storeys of an accessory building.

    THAT Development Variance Permit DVP00404 (Attachment A to the Report to Council dated June 4th, 2024) for property at 14650 Carrs Landing Road (Roll: 01751.124; PID: 016-351-240) to allow a two-storey accessory building, requiring a half-storey variance, be approved.

    Carried.

Agricultural Land Reserve application to temporarily retain an existing single family residence during the construction of new single family home.

  • 2024-06-119 It was moved and seconded

    THAT Agricultural Land Reserve application ALR00177 for property at 12125 Pow Road, legally described as LOT 1 SECTION 21 TOWNSHIP 20 OSOYOOS DIVISION YALE DISTRICT PLAN 6747, Roll 02792.000 be supported;

    AND THAT ALR00177 be forwarded to the Agricultural Land Commission.

    Carried.

Annual grant applications from the Okanagan Centre, Oyama and Winfield Memorial Community Halls.

  • 2024-06-120 It was moved and seconded

    THAT the following Community Hall Capital Grant Applications be approved:

    • Okanagan Centre Community Hall total request in the amount of $17,173;
    • Oyama Community Hall total request in the amount of $9,450.00 from Council Contingency; and
    • Winfield Memorial Hall total request in the amount of $4,575.00 from Community Hall Capital Grant.

    AND THAT funding for the above noted grants be allocated as follows $15,000 from the Community Hall Capital Grant Funds and $16,198 from Council Contingency.

    Carried.

To authorize execution of the Annual Operating Agreement for BC Transit service.

    THAT the 2024-2025 Annual Operating Agreement between the District of Lake Country and BC Transit, for transit service, for the period April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025 be authorized.

Councillor Lewis attended Oyama Days and had a great time.

Councillor Reed thanked staff, volunteers, and parents who attended Peter Greer Elementary Family Fun Night last Thursday.  She thanked Ryan Donn, Cultural Coordinator and the department for bringing well-known artists to Lake Country this summer.  She noted the Lake Country Farmers Market will start up again soon which is a great community event. The Carr's Landing Community & Recreation Association (CLC&RA) will be hosting a Fire Smart Presentation at the Carr's Landing Fire Hall on June 12th at 7:00 p.m.. Community members are encouraged to RSVP through the CLC&RA website.  Lastly, Councillor Reed thanked Danielle, Wendy and staff for their ORL presentation.

Councillor Patel had a great time at Peter Greer Elementary Family Fun Night and noted Oyama Days was fantastic.  He is excited for Live! In Lake Country to begin.

Councillor Brett thanked Lynn Lashuk and the Lake Country Farmers' Institute for attending Public Comment this evening.  She attended Ashes to Action at Kelowna Community Theatre last night where there was discussion around coexistence with fire.  Messages for the public included taking care of our health and implementing FireSmart behaviours.   

Councillor McKenzie noted Oyama days was great and thanked all the volunteers.  He acknowledged the Food Bank fundraiser recently held at Gatzke Orchardand gave a shoutout to Scott Unser, Public Works Manager who coordinated a meeting regarding the placement of a BC Hydro power pole with residents on Oyama Road.  Councillor McKenzie concluded by noting he is happy to see more traffic enforcement in the area.

Youth Councillor Domanski thanked Mayor and Council and Staff, on behalf of her peers, for everything they do for Lake Country.

Councillor Irvine had a great time at Oyama Days and gave a shoutout to Councillor McKenzie and his son, as well as the 3 youth that volunteered at the juice corner.  She also thanked the regular Oyama Volunteers for their continuous hard work.

Mayor Ireland noted that consideration of on-going annual funding for the Community Halls has been discussed at a staff level and will be brought forward at budget time. He noted that the launch of Make Water Work week was held at Lakestone Villas where there was a lot of discussion related to the fires last year and water conservation.  Mayor Ireland shared comments from the Okanagan Basin Water Board meeting today who are impressed with Lake Country's community spirit.  The Mayor concluded by announcing he will be attending the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference (FCM) in Calgary this week with Councillor Reed.

The Mayor adjourned the meeting at 8:33 p.m.
